About the artists:
Lee is best known on the Irish music circuit for being a blues guitarist and singer playing with the likes of Don Baker, The 9Bars (9bar blues band) Gotcha!, The Business, Rob Strong, Damien Dempsey, Mik Pyro (Republic Of Loose). After hearing Wes Montgomery for the first time Lee quickly became fascinated with jazz and studied the genre extensively for some time. He then went on to study at Newpark College for four years, graduating with a Batchelor of Arts in Jazz Performance in June 2019.
On Saxophone, Derek O’Connor or ‘Doc’ is known to the music world has continually refined and expanded his talents as a solo artist whilst establishing an elite reputation as one of Irelands finest Saxophone players and as a first-call sideman for some of the worlds major artists. Derek has toured, performed and recorded around the world with Paul Brady, Van Morrison, Chaka Khan, Wet Wet Wet, Bob Geldof, Imelda May, Andrew Strong, Heartbeat of Home, and Jeffrey Osborne to name but a few.
International Jazz Day is an International Day officially declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2011 “to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.” It is celebrated annually on April 30.
